AIRCAS International Scholars Learn About Healthcare Services in Beijing

06 Nov 2026

Five international participants from the Aerospace Information Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (AIRCAS) recently visited Beijing Jishuitan Hospital to learn how to access medical care while living and working in Beijing. Bilingual guidance on registration, consultations, and health examinations introduced them to the hospital's services for international patients.

The AIRCAS group comprised two visiting scholars supported by the CAS President's International Fellowship Initiative (PIFI), one visiting scholar supported by the Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP), one international staff member, and one international PhD student. They joined nearly 30 international experts at an event organized by the Beijing Overseas Talents Center and Beijing Jishuitan Hospital, which is affiliated with Capital Medical University.

For researchers navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system, the program offered practical information about seeking care. Staff from the hospital's Special Needs/International Medical Department and Health Management Center explained the consultation and health examination procedures, with opportunities to practice Chinese in medical settings.

Participants also received health assessments and individual explanations of their results. At the Health Management Center, they underwent body fat analysis and peripheral arterial health assessments and received multilingual examination reports. Center director YANG Jie reviewed the reports with participants and provided personalized health advice.

Health talks covered the prevention and management of common neck and lower back conditions and sports injuries affecting the feet and ankles. Spine surgeon JIANG Jile and foot and ankle surgeon LAI Liangpeng led the talks, while orthopedic physician ZHENG Hanlong demonstrated rehabilitation exercises that participants could practice at home.

The visit included an introduction to traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). In the international medical ward, YUAN Hongwei, deputy director of the Acupuncture Department, and physician MA Li explained acupuncture and moxibustion. Participants also took part in an interactive session on acupoint diagnosis and treatment.

A bilingual tour of the hospital's history museum introduced participants to its 70 years of development. With support from Sinolingua, a publishing house under the China International Communications Group, the organizers also presented them with the book Starting from China: Reshaping the Body and Mind for Health and Happiness.

The event formed part of Beijing's efforts to support international experts living in the city by combining healthcare information with language learning and cultural activities.
