China, Europe Collaborate to Advance Climate Action and Biodiversity Conservation Through Earth Observation

The Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) hosted a launch and review meeting for the China-European Union flagship research project, "Integrated Monitoring for Climate Action and Biodiversity Conversation Using Earth Observation" on January 14, 2025, in Beijing. This ambitious project aims to build a transnational observation network that brings together satellite, aerial, and ground-based monitoring systems. The goal is to pool efforts to address climate change while also protecting biodiversity, highlighting the strong connection between these two critical global challenges.

World Bank Project "Harnessing Data for Global Food Security - Capacity-Building Activities on CropWatch Cloud" Promotes Global Food Security

The World Bank project, Harnessing Data for Global Food Security - Capacity-Building Activities on CropWatch Cloud, has concluded with a summary meeting in Beijing on November 29, 2024. This project, financed through the World Bank China Trust Fund framework, focuses on leveraging data-driven digital agriculture to address food security challenges. The CropWatch platform was selected as the project’s technical solution, enhancing the capacity of Ethiopia, Madagascar, and Mozambique to utilize Earth observation data and technology for improved food security monitoring and resilience.

Forum on "Leveraging Space Technology for Africa’s Sustainable Development" Held in South Africa

The Aerospace Information Research Institute (AIR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences organized a thematic forum titled "Leveraging Space Technology for Africa’s Sustainable Development" in Pretoria, South Africa on December 5, 2024. The forum was part of the 2024 South Africa Science Forum and was co-hosted by AIR, the South African National Space Agency (SANSA), and the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO). Over 80 experts and representatives from China, South Africa, and international organizations participated in the event.
